Welcome to Part 3 of series about the Real Jesus in the Bible.
This exposition is from the Bible revelations of the late Teacher Eraño Martin Evangelista from the website www.thename.ph.
In our previous article (Part 2), we learned that Jesus’ true mission was mentioned by God in 2nd Samuel 7 verses 12 to 14.
In the said verses, God told David that He will raise up his descendant, David’s own flesh and blood. God told David that the task of his descendant is to build a house for His Holy Name. If successful, David’s descendant will be called a “Son of God” even though he was just a man. If he fails and commits wrong, he will be punished by the floggings inflicted by men.
Solomon was the first choice to build the house for the Name of God. Though he was successful in building the temple, he was not able to fully accomplish the task of making the Jews know the name of God because he built other temples for the gods of his wives.
God’s punishment to Solomon is that his kingdom will be taken from his son after he dies. God did not allow him to be punished by men as stated in the prophecy because God loved his father David.
When King Solomon failed, God chose another from the line of David, and the sign to identify the next "Chosen One" is that he will be born out of wedlock as mentioned by the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 7 verses 13 to 15. We already learned how it came into fulfillment through the birth of Jesus.
Jesus was the next chosen one from the line of David to make known the Name of God through the house that King Solomon had already built.
However, Jesus was punished by the rod and floggings inflicted by men which if we read God’s word in 2nd Samuel 7 verse 14, God said such punishment will happen if the descendant of David, now Jesus, committed wrong.
We will now learn what were the wrongdoings he committed.
May the readers be reminded that this is not about discrediting Jesus but rather revealing the real and true story regarding Jesus which the apostles of Jesus had hidden.
The Bible passages we will be reading are from the New International Version.
Let us begin with the question: What were the wrongs which Jesus had committed? Let us read in John 19 verse 7.
“The Jews insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God." John 19:7 NIV
The wrongdoing which Jesus committed was he pretended to be a “Son of God" instead of saying that he is only a son of man. His people (the Israelites) knew that he was a descendant of David, A SON OF MAN - not a "Son of God".
How did Jesus falsely pretend to be a Son of God? Let us begin our reading in Matthew 16 verse 13.
“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” Matthew 16:13 NIV
When Jesus was with his disciples, he asked them who the “Son of Man” is, or the “Son of David” as prophesied in II Samuel 7:12-14. He was not asking who the “son of God” is. At this stage, Jesus has not committed any iniquities yet.
How was he answered by his disciples? Let us read Matthew 16 verse 14.
“They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Matthew 16:14 NIV
In this passage, Jesus was expecting his disciples to say or declare that he was the “Son of Man” or the “Son of David”. But based on the answers given by his disciples, they did not really know him and what his work was that was prophesied.
To continue in Matthew 16 verse 15.
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:15 NIV
Jesus now directly asks his disciples if they knew who he was. Let us read Matthew 16 verse 16.
“Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16 NIV
It was Peter who answered that Jesus was the “Son of God”. All the teachings of the religions that Jesus is the “Son of God” obviously ignored the question that Jesus posed to his disciples: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” The focus of the religions’ teachings was on the answer given by Peter that Jesus was the “Son of God”.
In reality, Peter’s answer: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." was incorrect because Jesus was asking who the “Son of Man” or “Son of David prophesied long ago” is and not “who is the son of God”
Let us keep in mind that God has made a condition in 2nd Samuel 7 verse 14 regarding the descendant of David. In the said Bible verse. God said: " I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men."
Because of the condition set by God, Jesus, as a son of David should take caution in everything he says and should not be easily swayed or convinced by the words of the people around him lest he commits wrong and be punished by the rod and floggings of men.
Instead of correcting Peter for his wrong answer, what did Jesus say? Let us read Matthew 16 verse 17.
“Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.” Matthew 16:17NIV
We can read that instead of correcting Peter, Jesus was elated by his apostle’s answer that he was the “Son of God”.
Instead of rebuking Peter, he praised or blessed him for his answer saying that “this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven" - at the moment when he said those words, Jesus committed blasphemy. He was never actually a Son of God but only a Son of Man or a descendant of David! Thus, Jesus started to claim that he was the “Son of God” because of what Peter had said.
That was Jesus' first offense.
What else did Jesus say? Let us read Matthew 16 verse 18.
“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matthew 16:18 NIV
Jesus was sent by God to lead his fellow Israelites to the house with the Name of God so that they can know God's true Name. Instead, he built another house in his own name. Jesus had put up his own church which was not part of his work as specified in the prophecies. He denied the Jews the knowledge about the Name of God even more.
Sadly, this wrongdoing of Jesus was used as the foundation of the faith of the many religions. This was the second offense of Jesus.
Since Peter flattered Jesus with his answer, how did Jesus reward Peter in return? Let us read Matthew 16 verse 19.
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19 NIV
Since he has assumed that he is now the “Son of God”, he gave Peter authority. However, did Jesus know that he had committed an offense? Let us read in Matthew 16 verse 20.
“Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.” Matthew 16:20 NIV Jesus already knew that he committed iniquity in claiming to be a son of God and by speaking of a house or church to be built in his own name.
From the time that he pretended to be the “Son of God” without fulfilling his work and had put up his own church, was he aware that he would be punished with the “rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men?” Let us read in Matthew 16 verse 21.
“From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” Matthew 16:21 NIV
He said that he would “suffer” or be punished, and on the third day, he would be raised to life. This means Jesus already knew that he will be punished by the floggings inflicted by men.
As for what Jesus said about “The third day,” we will learn the true meaning of what he said about being raised on the “third day” in our upcoming articles. We will discover if the apostles were right in what they have written about Jesus’ so-called “resurrection.”
To continue in Matthew 16 verse 22.
“Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Matthew 16:22 NIV
Let us remember how it was Peter who influenced Jesus to pretend as the “Son of God. "; In this passage, we can read how Peter tried again to persuade Jesus that suffering and death will never happen to him.
What did Jesus say to him? Let us read in Matthew 16 verse 23.
“Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” Matthew 16:23 NIV
In the said passage Jesus called Peter as Satan because Peter was the one used by the devil to trick him into proclaiming himself as a literal Son of God and building a church in his own name. Jesus later realized that Peter was used by Satan to deceive him, but that comprehension came too late. He had already committed the “wrong!”
Comparing with the events in the Garden of Eden, the Snake deceived Eve and not Adam. Adam was deceived through Eve! In Jesus’ case, Satan used Peter to deceive Jesus to act as the “Son of God”. The transgression that happened in the Garden of Eden happened again in the time of Jesus and that is why he was punished. Jesus never learned from the prior transgression which happened in the Garden in Eden.
Because of the disobedience that happened in the Garden of Eden, the Snake was punished by God and made to crawl. With the offenses he committed, Jesus was also punished by God and suffered pain from scourging. They suffered the same fate – both were punished!
This realization leads us to the fact that the apostles of Jesus had written a false account. They were wrong in saying that Jesus did not sin against God.
Question: what authority did the late Teacher Eraño Martin Evangelista have to reveal this truth regarding Jesus? Was he against Jesus?
Answer: Let us read Jesus’ own words in Revelation 22 verse 16.
"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star." Revelation 22:16 NIV.
Jesus said that he will be sending an "angel" or a messenger to give a testimony in his name. This “angel” or messenger will be sent to reveal the truth that Jesus is a "descendant" of David; that he is a man, not a "son of God"; and that he is also "the bright morning star" that was prophesied in the Holy Bible.
We can now understand that Teacher Evangelista’s Bible revelation regarding Jesus as only a Son of David is not about discrediting Jesus. It is all about testifying the truth about Jesus’ admission long ago that he (Jesus) was not a Son of God but only a descendant of David.
Let us understand why the word “angel” was used in Revelation 22 verse 16.
People were misled by the religions into thinking that when it says “Angel” in the Bible, it generally speaks about a spiritual being, sometimes with wings. Is this true?
Let us read Hosea 12 verse 4.
“He struggled with the angel and overcame him; he wept and begged for his favor. He found him at Bethel and talked with him there - Hosea 12:4 NIV
In Hosea 12 verse 4 we can read that Jacob struggled with an Angel of God.
How does this angel look like? Let us read Genesis 32 verses 24 to 26.
So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me." Genesis 32:24-26 NIV
It is clear that the “man” (not a being with wings) whom Jacob wrestled with was an "angel". Therefore, the term “Angel” in Revelation 22 verse 16 do not necessarily mean a spiritual being but a man sent by God to proclaim His message.
Thus, Revelation 22:16 speaks of a man (who was mentioned before by Jesus while he was still alive) whom God will send to testify or reveal the truth about who he (Jesus) really is; why he was sent by God; that he is just a root and offspring of David (or a descendant of David), which will lead us into the realization that he is the despised bright morning star spoken in one of the prophecies in the Old Testament
We may now understand that there is only one man (and NOT ALL the people) who was given the authority by God to explain Jesus’ true nature and mission from God.
Question: what did Jesus mean when he admitted he was also the bright morning star as written in Revelation 22:16? We will learn more about that in part 4 of our series. Return to Reading MapProceed to Part 4
