Here in Part 10 of our series, we will learn how Jesus used Satan’s method of deception to mislead people into believing he is a direct “ Son of God.”
We had already known in Part 5 how Jesus imitated the way Satan overturned God’s command when he overturned God’s commandments, thus worshiping Satan.
Let us first learn Satan’s manner of deception. In Luke 4 verse 3 we can read:
The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." Luke 4:3 NIV
The late Teacher Evangelista once explained that in the said passage, The Devil or Satan was challenging Jesus to turn the stone into bread. Jesus did not have the power to do such a thing, simply because he is a man.
If Jesus was indeed the “son of God”, the Devil need not ask Jesus to prove himself otherwise, that would be an insult.
Let us read how Jesus answered the Devil.
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone." Luke 4:4 NIV
We can understand from the passage that Jesus answered the Devil indirectly as if he had said he can’t turn stone into bread.
Since Jesus did not have the power, the Devil made an offer.
The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours." Luke 4:5-7 NIV
Let us use our understanding: if Jesus is just a son of God or even God, why is it that the Devil or Satan is the one promising him the authority and splendor of the world?
Also in the said passage, the Devil or Satan told Jesus: ”So if you worship me, it will all be yours."- This means that when Jesus worships the Devil or Satan, he will be revered like a god. People will be deceived into thinking that he is (a god), because of the miracles he will perform with the power that Satan hands over to him.
Let us read Jesus’ response in Luke 4:8
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. Luke 4:8 NIV
As a response to Satan’s offer, Jesus cited what was written in the scriptures.
Did their discussion end there? Let us continue reading.
The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. Luke 4:9 NIV
This is the continuation of Satan’s deception of Jesus. This time the devil is asking Jesus to jump from the top of the temple
To continue:
For it is written: "He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' " Luke 4:10-11 NIV
We can understand from the said passage that the Devil or Satan had just cited scripture to challenge Jesus.
Let us read Jesus’ reply in Luke 4 verse 12:
Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' " Luke 4:12 NIV
Why did Jesus answer him in this manner? Was the passage used by the Devil written in the Holy Bible? Let us read in Psalm 91:11-12.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' " Psalm 91:11-12 NIV
It is indeed written in the book of Psalms. However, according to the late Teacher Evangelista, what was written in said scripture in the Psalms is different from what the Devil was saying to Jesus.
The Devil was challenging Jesus to “throw himself down...,” meaning to fall intentionally. While in the scripture, if we read more closely, it says “that you will not strike your foot against a stone” – which means if he accidentally stumbles. Therefore, the Devil was saying differently from what was written in the Holy Bible. This is Satan’s manner of deception – to say or mean what is different from what was written in the scriptures.
If Jesus made us worship the Devil (Satan) and disobey God, then we must have proof of how he imitated the way Satan (Devil) twisted the meaning of God’s word in the scriptures.
Let us read what Jesus did in Matthew 22 verses 41 to 42.
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" "The son of David," they replied. Matthew 22:41-42 NIV
In the said passage. Jesus asked the Pharisees from whose bloodline the Christ or Anointed one will come from. Their response was that the coming Christ or “Anointed” will come from the house of David and that the descendant was to be called the "son of David."
Let us read what Jesus' response was. In Matthew 22 verses 43 to 44.
He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'? For he says, " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." ' Matthew 22:43-44 NIV
Jesus cited a Psalm of David and claims that in the Psalm, King David speaks about the coming of the “Christ.”
Let us now read Matthew 22 verse 45.
If then David calls him 'Lord,' how can he be his son?" Matthew 22:45 NIV
And in Matthew 22 verse 46.
No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions. Matthew 22:46 NIV
It is with the said verses in Psalm 110, Jesus made it appear that King David was speaking about the coming of the “Son of God.” The Pharisees were caught in Jesus’ trap and were not able to refute him that day on.
Teacher Evangelista explained then that no one was able to refute Jesus, because during his time, it was only Jesus who knew about the prophecy, and the true teachings. What Jesus did instead was he had used it for his own personal advantage, since he didn’t want to be called the "son of David," but wanted to be the "son of God."
Fortunately for us, Teacher Evangelista was sent to plainly explain the things Jesus had said and done. As we have already learned in Part 8 of our series, Jesus, before he died, mentioned in the scriptures that God will send a messenger or a counselor who will testify about him (Jesus) or reveal the truth about him.
Teacher Evangelista, before he passed away last 2015 was able to reveal this truth about Jesus via the website www.thename.ph
Let us now read how the late Teacher Evangelista was able to reveal the answer.
When Jesus asked them regarding the passage “The LORD said unto my Lord,” is it really written in the Holy Bible?
In Psalm 110 verse 1 we can read:
The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." Psalm 110:1 NIV
As the passage reads: “The LORD says to my Lord.”
It is written, that is why no one, in Jesus' time, had the courage and the understanding to refute him.
But Teacher Evangelista says, that was during his time.
Now, let us read what God showed to Teacher Evangelista in the scriptures about who is the ‘lord’ referred to by David in Psalm 110 verse 1. We will read the answer in Psalm 16 verses 1 to 2:
Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." Psalm 16:1-2 NIV
Again in another version, in the New King James Version, it also written:
Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” Psalm 16:1-2 NKJV
“O my soul” – It is specifically mentioned here that David was referring to himself when he talked to God.
This purports that in Psalm 110 verse 1, the “Lord” that King David was referring to aside from God is himself and not another person.
According to Teacher Evangelista, the reason why David called himself “Lord” when he speaks with the LORD God, is that he was also a king and therefore respects the authority given to him by God as a king over His people Israel!
Is it really true that David refers to himself in this manner when he speaks to God?
In 2nd Samuel 7 verse 18 to 20 we can read:
Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant. Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign LORD? "What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Sovereign LORD. II Samuel 7:18-20 NIV
As the passage reads: "What more can David say to you?" – When David speaks with God, he refers to himself in the third person. This is how David humbles himself in the presence of God. David was a shepherd who became a king because of God. Humility is a sign of great respect.
Again, when David said "The LORD says to my Lord” in Psalm 110 verse 1, it was David speaking indirectly of himself in the passage, not that David was referring to another, which Jesus claimed was the "son of God," as himself, in the passage.
We can now see how Jesus imitated Satan’s manner of deception by making a false and misleading explanation of God’s word.
Let us again read Jesus' claim in Matthew 22 verses 43 to 44.
He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'? For he says, " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." ' Matthew 22:43-44 NIV
"'The Lord said to my Lord”-It was David himself conversing with God. Jesus was wrong in saying that he is the “lord “mentioned by David.
Reading again Psalm 110:1-
The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." Psalm 110:1 NIV
If David was referring to himself in this Psalm then it follows that he is the one whose enemies were put by God under his feet:
This time it will be King David’s son, Solomon who will reveal. In 1st Kings 5 verses 2 to 3.
Solomon sent back this message to Hiram: "You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD put his enemies under his feet. 1 Kings 5:2-3 NIV
It was David’s enemies that were placed under his feet, not Jesus' feet. In Jesus' case, it was the other way around; he was placed under the feet of his enemies.
This grand exposition of the great deception was made possible because God was the one who guided Teacher Evangelista in the Bible.
This also proves that what was written in Revelation 22:16 is true- that he is not an enemy of Jesus but was indeed sent to testify about Jesus:
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” Revelation 22:16 NIV
We just shared with you the testimony of the Angel or “Messenger” of Jesus about how Jesus is truly a descendant or offspring of David and not a son of God.
This Bible exposition finally ends the great debate about the identity and nature of Jesus.
