In the video shared above and in one of the articles in www.thename.ph entitled THE REAL JESUS THAT GOD WANTS THE WHOLE WORLD TO KNOW we may learn how Jesus willfully violated God's Sabbath law and encouraged his followers not to follow the said law.
As a result of following Jesus' teachings about the Sabbath, humankind suffered because they can no longer enjoy God's blessing of rest. Aside from man, our planet also suffered because people forgot God's law about the Sabbath of the land (Leviticus 25:1 to 7) where people are commanded to let the land rest and not do farming for a year so that the land can recharge or rejuvenate itself. Had humankind followed such law, we would have understood the value of taking care of our environment and not abuse our natural resources. We would not be experiencing this destructive calamities brought about by today's climate change crisis. May I also share another of the earlier Bible revelations from God to Maestro Evangelista's about how Jesus willfully desecrated God's law about the Sabbath day. Let us begin by reading the event with Jesus in Mark 2: 23-26 23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” 25 He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? 26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Mark 2:23-26 NIV Here we can read that Jesus was accused by the Pharisees about how he and his disciples were doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath. In God's law about the Sabbath, He commanded His people to not do ANY work but only to take a full day's rest (Deut.5:12-14, Exo.31:12-17) and God even reiterated in His commandment that by resting on the Sabbath day, His people will be like honoring Him on how He too rested after His creation. If we also use our understanding about God's commandment regarding the Sabbath, Maestro Evangelista said, God made that law for our benefit because we can be able to make our bodies rest and rejuvenate itself after six days of work. Going back to the accusation of the Pharisees about disregarding the Sabbath, Jesus answered them by citing the scriptures about an event that happened during the time of David, when he and his companions, when they were hungry, ate of the consecrated bread in the temple of God, the kind of bread which was only meant to be ate by priests. Our beloved late Maestro Evangelista also said that we should keep in mind too, that the accusation of the Pharisees was about Jesus and his companions doing what was unlawful on the Sabbath day. It is not about David's violation. Let us read what happened during David's time and discover for ourselves if David too, violated the Sabbath day. "1 David went to Nob, to Ahimelek the priest. Ahimelek trembled when he met him, and asked, “Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?” 2 David answered Ahimelek the priest, “The king sent me on a mission and said to me, ‘No one is to know anything about the mission I am sending you on.’ As for my men, I have told them to meet me at a certain place. 3 Now then, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever you can find.” 4 But the priest answered David, “I don’t have any ordinary bread on hand; however, there is some consecrated bread here—provided the men have kept themselves from women.” 5 David replied, “Indeed women have been kept from us, as usual whenever I set out. The men’s bodies are holy even on missions that are not holy. How much more so today!” 6 So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the LORD and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away." 1 Samuel 21:1-6 NIV As we can read, we can discover some errors in Jesus' citation of this event. First- the priest was not Abiathar as Jesus said, it was Ahimelek Second- Jesus was wrong in saying that only priests can eat the 'sacred' bread. The consecrated bread can be shared by the priests to other men provided the men kept themselves from women. Third and most important- David and his men were not violating the Sabbath day. Jesus cited an event which has nothing to do at all with the Sabbath day. It is clear that Jesus and his disciples committed what is forbidden on the Sabbath day. We can also see how Jesus was misdirecting the topic about the Sabbath. Why don't we read again Mark 2, this time in verses 27 to 28 and see what Jesus said to the Pharisees in addition about the Sabbath Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27-28 NIV Here Jesus claims that he is also the Lord of the Sabbath. Though God indeed made Sabbath for man's benefit, it is not right for Jesus to say that he is Lord of the Sabbath because God did not give him any authority about it. Let us read what God said about the significance of the Sabbath day 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a LASTING covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites FOREVER, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’ Exodus 31:16-17 NIV God stated that the observance of the Sabbath is a LASTING covenant between Him and His people. God will not change it. For Jesus to say that God made him Lord of the sabbath, Jesus was truly committing blasphemy. Question: Weren't Jesus and his disciples simply plucking grain for food during the Sabbath? Let us read an event during the time of Moses and see how God wanted the law about the Sabbath be implemented. "32 While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, 34 and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. 35 Then the LORD said to Moses, “The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.” 36 So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD commanded Moses." Numbers 15:32-36 NIV God Himself, not Moses judged a man who was just gathering wood during the Sabbath day to be punished by death. That is how serious God was about the Sabbath. Jesus and his disciples could have done it on a different day but not on the Sabbath. Jesus has deliberately opposed God's law about the Sabbath and this is one of his wrongdoings why God's punishment of being flogged by men as written in 2 Samuel 7:12-14 occurred to him. May the readers be reminded that this is not about discrediting Jesus but rather revealing the real and true story regarding Jesus which the apostles of Jesus had hidden. This is not to promote a new religion or faith but only to share God’s true message in the Bible. Comments are closed.
